I. What is the Progressive Tense?

These are used to discuss actions that are ongoing. It is usually used to talk about:

1. what is happening right now

2. an action that is happening at the same time as another one

For example:

1. I am eating. (right now)

2. I was eating when you called me. (two actions at the same time: ‘eating’ and ‘called’).

II. How do you make the Progressive Tense?

• Present Progressive

  • walk —> am walking

  • I am walking to the bank right now.

• Past Progressive

  • play —> was playing

  • The last time I saw him, he was playing football with his friends.

• Future Progressive

  • watch —> will be watching

  • You better behave, son. I will be watching you.

III. Assignment

1. Change the following words into the Present Progressive:

   • blame

   • think

   • want

2. Change the following words into the Past Progressive:

   • fry

   • wonder

   • love

3. Change the following words into the Future Progressive:

   • make

   • stew

   • shine

4. Write a short paragraph that contains the Present Progressive, Past Progressive, and Future Progressive (get creative for this one)!
